Some weddings leave a lasting impression long after the day is over, and Jadie and Chris' intimate beach elopement in Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica is one of those celebrations I'll always remember.

After months of cancelled and postponed weddings during the pandemic, their celebration became my first wedding back behind the camera. It felt like the perfect reminder of why I love photographing destination weddings in Costa Rica. From the moment Jadie first reached out, I knew this wasn't simply another wedding—it was going to be an experience centered around the people they loved most and the beauty of Costa Rica's Pacific coast.

Jadie, a talented wedding photographer from Utah, had already planned a trip to Costa Rica with their closest friends. As their travel date approached, they made a spontaneous decision that would become one of the best choices they could have made: instead of simply vacationing together, they would exchange vows and celebrate with an intimate beach elopement surrounded by the people who mattered most.

As photographers, we're usually the ones behind the camera, guiding others through some of the biggest moments of their lives. Having another photographer trust me to document her own wedding was truly one of the greatest compliments I could receive. I know firsthand how vulnerable it can feel to step in front of the camera, and seeing Jadie completely relax, be present, and simply enjoy every moment made documenting their day even more meaningful.

Choosing the Perfect Beach in Potrero

One of my favourite parts of photographing destination weddings is helping couples find locations that perfectly match the vision they have for their wedding day.

From our very first conversations, Jadie and Chris completely trusted my recommendations—even when it came to selecting the ceremony location. After sharing several recent wedding galleries, we met a few days before the wedding and explored the beaches around Potrero, Guanacaste, walking the shoreline together and discussing every possible ceremony location before finding the perfect spot.

What made this ceremony location unique was that we intentionally did something different. Instead of positioning the altar toward the ocean, we turned it toward a beautiful natural pathway lined with towering palm trees. The result felt incredibly intimate while still embracing everything couples dream of when planning a tropical Costa Rica wedding.

The People You Choose Matter

If there's one piece of advice I could give every couple planning a destination wedding, it's this:

Surround yourselves with people who genuinely want to celebrate your happiness.

The energy your family and friends bring to your wedding day shapes the entire experience.

Jadie and Chris' bridal party embodied exactly that. Every detail was handled before the couple even had to think about it. There was constant laughter, encouragement, hugs, and excitement from the moment everyone arrived until well after the ceremony ended. Because their friends took care of the little things, Jadie and Chris were able to simply enjoy every minute together without stress.

Those moments always translate into photographs that feel authentic because nothing is forced. They're simply present.

A Costa Rica Sunset We Could Only Dream About

As every wedding photographer knows, beautiful light changes everything.

After several afternoons filled with tropical rain showers, Costa Rica surprised us with one of the most spectacular sunsets imaginable. Warm golden light filled the beach from beginning to end, creating the perfect backdrop for timeless portraits of the newlyweds.

The soft ocean breeze, the palm trees, the Pacific Ocean, and one unforgettable sunset came together to create the kind of wedding day couples dream about when they decide to elope in Costa Rica.

It's evenings like this that remind me why Guanacaste continues to be one of the most beautiful places in the world for destination weddings.

Planning Your Own Costa Rica Beach Elopement?

Whether you're dreaming of a private beach ceremony, an intimate destination wedding with your closest family and friends, or a luxury celebration overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica offers some of the most breathtaking wedding locations in the world.

As a Costa Rica destination wedding photographer, I love helping couples not only document their wedding day, but also choose beautiful locations, create a relaxed timeline, and enjoy every moment without feeling rushed.

If you're planning your own wedding in Potrero, Flamingo, Las Catalinas, Tamarindo, Playa Conchal, or anywhere in Guanacaste, I'd love to help tell your story in a natural and timeless way.
