Meli and Jay’s wedding was extra special for me. Meli and I have been friends forever, we went to school together, and have been able to stay in touch since. So when she asked me to shoot her wedding in Santa Teresa, I was beyond honored!!! I was so excited to see her again, as well as many of my dear friends that I knew were going to attend. I just knew this wedding was going to be incredibly special… and it was.
Once we graduated highschool, Meli moved to Florida to study Marine Biology… There, she discovered her love for Kitesurfing, and being the incredible athlete that she is, she soon became a pro kite-surfer, actually winning the title of Kitespeed World Champion in 2009!!!
Meli and Jay met at a friend’s party. Meli took her dad along, since he was in town from CR and basically because he’s just the coolest dad you will ever meet 🙂 This worked perfectly, since Jay found great conversation in Mr. Gil (Meli’s super shy by the way haha) and ended up talking with him, and consequently with Meli, the rest of the evening. They hit it off great from day 1, they had the same interests and values : loved their family over everything else, loved the outdoors, surfing and nature.
For their wedding day, location was easy to chose. They chose a beachfront house in Malpais. A paradise for both, their favorite spot to relax and surf. Meli and her mom were in charge of all the decorations. I have to inform that Mrs. Gil was our art teacher in high school, “Teacher Hazel” … She’s pretty pretty good at what she does, and she took this to their advantage and created a wonderful DIY wedding. Being environmentally friendly, all of their decorations involved recycled materials as a priority. On their wedding day the enthusiasm of all their friends and family members showed. There were cousins hanging dreamcatchers from the trees, friends placing the tables, and aunts and uncles getting the lights just right. The support was incredible! Everyone was having a blast helping out. Meli specifically pointed this out with immense gratitude, since she didn’t ask anyone for this…! Everyone just felt the desire to be there and participate. One of my favorite details of the day were the dreamcatchers. As you can see through the gallery, the dreamcatchers were everywhere! Well, it turns out Meli’s grandmother loves to knit, “she’s faster than a spider!” Meli points out. All of these dreamcatchers were knitted by her, as well as the crochet tablecloths. Isn’t that the most beautiful gift?
Meli and Jay thank you for letting me be a part of your day. Thank you for trusting me to capture these moments, it was truly an incredible day!
